Julie has been an Art Therapist for 24 years working with BCAT/ wide range of community groups/ in mental health clinics for adults and children/in prisons/schools and hospitals. She has led training workshops in the UK and abroad and regularly offers Supervision to students and Allied Health Practitioners. These workshops will offer opportunities for students interested in Art Therapy, newly qualified Practitioners and other professionals to participate in experiential sessions. To deepen awareness of self and art therapy processes. Materials will be provided unless otherwise stated for each workshop. Certificates of attendance awarded towards CPD requirements.
Week 3: “I’m here, can you see me”
This sessions explores what holds us back in work/life situations. Aim to help increase confidence to feel more visible. Uses art and mindfulness techniques to help connect to the space we take in the world and how to feel more present in it. No previous experience of mindfulness needed. A relaxing and creative session.
Week 4: Workshop: Mask making
Look at symbolic/stereotypical roles we take on and explore via process of mask making. A playful session, swapping masks as we go along and exploring the roles others put on us cross culturally or within families or work places.
Week 5: March - Dream Workshop. (Theme may change depending on the group dynamic)
Bring your dreams and explore the imaginary space you inhabit while you sleep or daydream. Look at the symbols/signs that are repeated in each others dreams and what they represent. Use art to explore the feelings the dreams leave you with.
Week 6: Group image
Working together as a group to create images/paintings/sculptures on theme identified on the day..
Week 7: Working with both sides of the brain.
An intensely experiential session where strong emotions may be safely explored. Looking at how we can help ourselves and help others via this approach.
A Free painting/sculpting session beginning with a guided relaxation for 15 minutes. No set theme, working within the therapeutic structure of the Art Therapy Studio.
Week 9: Dependence & Independence
We are constantly making attachments and letting go as therapists, healthcare professionals, parents, lovers, friends. Using art materials we will explore how to recognise our own dependent feelings and independent needs and how they impact on the relationships we form.
Week 10: Workshop - Celebration and Ritual / The Letting Go
In life moments of celebration and loss often occur hand in hand. In this final workshop of the series, we will use art to celebrate letting go, taking time to think about how to make the moment safe and what there is to look forward to in our lives.
